Michigan Regional Educational Media Centers and Discovery Education Renew Partnership to Provide Digital Content to Schools Statewide

— Michigan school systems can purchase Discovery Education streaming through REMC Statewide $AVE Bid Project —

Silver Spring, Md. (Apr. 26, 2010) – The Regional Educational Media Center (REMC) Association of Michigan and Discovery Education have renewed their partnership. Eligible educational entities statewide now have the opportunity to purchase Discovery Education streaming through the REMC Statewide $AVE Bid Project. Discovery Education was awarded the contract through a competitive bid process.

The digital media-based learning service scientifically shown to increase academic achievement, Discovery Education streaming ’s more than 125,000 digital learning objects — including videos, interactives, images, articles and more — integrate seamlessly into any curriculum. Aligned to state standards and assessments and searchable by keyword, content area and grade level, the rich video content and other digital assets from Discovery Education engage today’s students in learning.

Discovery Education has provided Discovery Education streaming to Michigan schools for the past six years through their relationship with the REMC Association of Michigan and the REMC Centers. During this time, schools in Michigan have significantly increased integration of educational technologies and digital content in classroom curriculum, and have made great progress in helping educators throughout the state meet the varied learning styles of today’s students. The REMC Association of Michigan is committed to providing the highest quality media and technology resources to the state’s students and educators.

“Over the course of Discovery Education’s relationship with the REMC Association of Michigan, more than 7.5 million assets have been streamed or downloaded by Michigan educators,” said Discovery Education Director Ashley Mathis. “With more than 2,600 Michigan schools currently subscribing to Discovery Education streaming , we are excited to continue working with our partners at the REMC Association of Michigan and with educators across the state on our joint mission to improve student academic achievement.”

In addition to partnering with Discovery Education to provide digital content to school systems, the REMC Association of Michigan has also collaborated with Discovery Education to build capacity and to support educators through one of the nation’s largest professional learning communities, the Discovery Educator Network (DEN) . Through the DEN, Michigan educators have access to a wide range of technology training as well as a resource library of teacher-generated projects and tools. Over the course of this partnership, 5,400 members of the DEN in Michigan have trained more than 26,000 educators in peer-led professional development sessions.
